Rorke's PageComposer™ Adds Scatterproofing Option

New Software Module Allows Macintosh Users to Proof Multiple Native Scitex & TIFF/IT-P1 Files

Chicago, IL, GraphExpo 2000, Booth #1435, September 24, 2000 — Rorke Data, a subsidiary of San Jose-based Bell Microproducts, Inc. (NASDAQ: BELM), announced today that it has begun shipping an optional PageComposer module that enables scatterproofing of TIFF/IT-P1 and Scitex NewCT/NewLW files on any digital proofer at any resolution. PageComposer 3.0 is a Macintosh-based digital front-end application that unites proprietary prepress file formats and workflows with standard PostScript applications and output devices (digital proofers, imagesetters, and CTP).

"The PageComposer suite of workflow applications is organized into functional modules," said Joe Rorke, VP Marketing, Rorke Data, Inc. "Over the last year we've added more robust file conversion capabilities, a Harlequin PostScript3 RIP module, and now an optional scatterproofing module.  Many of our customers — large and small prepress facilities, ad agencies and publishers — are moving to open system digital workflows that rely on consistent file formats such as TIFF/IT-P1. The Scatterproof module offers tremendous return-on-investment by conserving and optimizing any proofer's consumables usage."

"Rorke's Macintosh applications leverage the power of the new Macintosh G4 computers to deliver a high-end, professional prepress workflow," said Robert Hill, National Sales Manager of Rorke's Prepress & Publishing Division. "This is an area that was previously the domain of proprietary file formats and expensive UNIX and NT-based centralized server configurations. The convergence of processing power, price point, and application robustness is hitting the publishing industry mainstream this year, and PageComposer is a reflection of that trend."

"One way to look at this is that you can cost-effectively leverage several G4 processor Macintoshes, each with its own PageComposer license, to gain an open distributive workflow advantage," noted Patrik Carlsson, Worldwide Product Manager, PageComposer, Rorke Data.  "Other UNIX and NT centralized server configurations mean a single point of failure and inevitable bottlenecks."

Rorke's optional Scatterproof module MSRP is $2,500 USD plus maintenance, and requires a primary PageComposer module for operation.  For complete PageComposer pricing, call 1-800-328-8147. Download a PageComposer Internet Demo at www.rorke.com.
