Rorke Data to Ship Macintosh-BASED, Low-cost PostScript LL3 TIFF/IT RIP

New PageComposer® RIP Option Unites PDF, PDF/X,TIFF/IT, Scitex  and DCS2 on the Desktop

San Antonio, TX, DDAP Annual Conference 2000, March 7, 2000 — Rorke Data U.S. and its software development team at Rorke Data Europe in Emmen, The Netherlands, have announced that the company's new PostScript® LanguageLevel 3 compatible RIP option for Rorke's PageComposer file conversion application will be introduced at the DDAP (Digital Distribution of Advertising for Publication) Conference 2000.

The new PageComposer TIFF/IT RIP integrates Harlequin's PostScript LL3 ScriptWorks® RIP with Rorke's popular digital front-end application, PageComposer. The TIFF/IT RIP allows Macintosh® users to RIP PostScript, PDF, PDF/X, EPS and DCS files into fully compliant TIFF/IT-P1 files, including CT, LW, FP & HC components.

"With the addition of PostScript LL3 support, any Macintosh user can direct workflow in multiple directions, based on job requirements, effectively bridging the gap between proprietary prepress raster formats, vector formats, and standard PostScript output devices like Proofers or CTP," said Joe Rorke, Rorke's VP of Marketing.

Leslie Wengenroth, Director of Product Marketing at Harlequin, noted that DFE module options such as Rorke's PageComposer RIP are providing a means for better collaboration within the industry. "Rorke's unique use of Harlequin RIP technology within PageComposer," said Wengenroth, "as an automated file conversion and centralized output application, allows ad agencies, publishers, prepress houses and printers to work together in a more efficient manner, regardless of file format."

Mike Skurski of Total Integration concurred. "We are excited to partner with Rorke Data on the development of the PageComposer TIFF/IT RIP, because we share Rorke Data's vision of unified workflows through consistent, open-standard file formats like TIFF/IT & PDF/X."

Patrik Carlsson, Rorke's Worldwide PageComposer Product Manager, commented on the changing nature of the desktop publishing environment. "The increased processing power of the G3 and G4 Macintosh platforms," said Carlsson, "as well as ever-expanding DTP applications, means that CT & LW file formats, once considered exotic and proprietary, can now be on the desktop side-by-side with PDF and PostScript. Even small work groups and freelancers can create, or RIP, 100% consistent TIFF/IT-P1 files for problem-free file exchange and output."
