Rorke Data Europe, a subsidiary of Rorke Data, Inc (parent Bell Microproducts, Nasdaq:BELM) announced today, together with their Malta-based reseller, Forestals Ltd, the successful installation of StudioNet-FC at www.travelTV.com Malta. The fibre channel-based solution demonstrates the advantages of an open system SAN solution by unifying the post production applications of multiple vendors.

"Rorke Data Europe helped us design, implement, and install a fibre channel solution that integrates a wide variety of workstations and applications that our end-user customer, WWW, TravelTV in Malta – uses in a post production environment," said Winston De Giorgio, Manager of the Broadcast Division for Forestals, LTD. "We took advantage of StudioNet-FC's open system design to integrate Sonic Foundry for audio post dubbing with Matrox-based video capture, non-linear editing, and graphics. So, regardless of the application our editors can easily collaborate."

Rorke Data Europe's Director A/V Sales, Quinton Maloney described the improved SAN-based workflow "Footage is acquired at one of the Edit Suites using Matrox's Speed Razor editing software. Any one of the other two video edit suites can produce a program using the acquired clips through the StudioNet-FC system.  When the video editing of the program is completed, the operator in the audio suite loads the production into his system using Vegas Video multi-track production software. He then adds a total of eight languages and music, all on separate tracks."

The StudioNet-FC system leverages the speeds, and overall network bandwidth inherent to a fibre channel-based infrastructure with file sharing and metadata tracking to deliver seamless workflow regardless of the application OEM. With a SAN, Malta can simultaneously edit and played back footage by multiple stations, with no need for local storage. Instead of having to make a copy of files to get it from one side of a facility to another, a SAN allows multiple users on opposite sides of the facility to use the same file, at the same time, without the need to make additional copies.
