Rorke's PageComposer Broadens Range of workflow support
Conversion for 1bitTIFF to DCS2 Output and CT&LW to PDF Output, Plus Support for G4 Compression, Enhanced File Preview & Zooming Features
San Francisco, Ca., Seybold Seminars SF, Booth #437, August 31, 1999 — Rorke Data, Inc. has announced the introduction of additional modules for the company's Digital Front End (DFE) application, PageComposer. One new module provides support for the input of various 1bitTIFF files (i.e. Creo Allegro and Agfa Taipan) with consistent output to DCS2 with G4 compression support, while the other allows users to input CT & LW files for conversion and output to PDF. The new modules — in addition to enhanced file preview features such as zooming — substantially broaden the scope of the software's file format support and workflow capabilities.
Originally designed to allow customers a means to output proprietary CT & LW workflows with industry-standard PostScript output devices, PageComposer now bridges new workflow possibilities through consistent file conversion and reliable output among a much wider array of industry OEMs, said Joe Rorke, Rorke Data's VP/Marketing.
"The robust workflow management components of PageComposer — such as Hot Folders, Job Templates, and AppleScript — perfectly support and complement the additional file handling capabilities now available," said Rorke. "With the new modules, PageComposer has become an all-purpose file conversion and output management DFE, uniting workflows from OEMs as varied
as Heidelberg, CREO, SCITEX and AGFA. The software allows users to input, view, and convert native file formats on a Macintosh, and then manage those files for multiple output destinations." The same files can be delivered at any required resolution, for proofing, film, direct imaging, or plate.
PageComposer now supports the following workflows and file formats:
- CREO, AGFA ,& 1bitTIFF Files to DCS2: Supports direct input of both CREO Allegro and AGFA Taipan 1bitTIFF files with G4 or LZW compression, and the output of these files with a DCS2 wrapper, while maintaining the 1bit data. As a result, these popular 1bit files can be consistently output directly for impositioning for any plate device, regardless of origin. PageComposer can also de-screen 1bit files for output to proofing devices.
- PDF Output Support: Users can input either Scitex or TIFF/IT-P1 CT & LW data and output directly to a PDF file for output and exchange, thus bypassing the time-consuming distilling process and adding workflow efficiency.
- Enhanced Preview: ColorSync-accurate screen previews now enable the user to zoom and view any of the supported input formats, such as Scitex or TIFF/IT-P1 CT & LW — at the actual pixel level. Users can verify colors and measure color percentages.
