Digital Content Management Solution Features REEL Software

Integration of FLEXSTOR.db with REEL Software from SCH Technologies Expands Options for Backup/Restore/Archive Operations

EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, June 1, 1999  Rorke Data, Inc., a leading developer of high-end storage and software solutions, and SCH Technologies today announced that Rorke's FLEXSTOR.db digital content management software now incorporates the REEL storage management software solutions from SCH Technologies. This powerful combination allows FLEXSTOR.db users expanded flexibility and speed in their backup, archive and restore operations.

The REEL software components incorporated in the FLEXSTOR.db solution include: REELbackup software, providing high performance backup, archive and restore; REELrobot software, which delivers comprehensive tape library management and connectivity; and dbBRZ/FLEXSTOR, allowing FLEXSTOR.db the ability to leverage the REEL capabilities.

"REELbackup software has been seamlessly integrated into FLEXSTOR.db as a standard product feature," said Mike Denley, Rorke Data's Software Division Director. "For enterprise-wide digital content management," said Denley, "we determined that REELbackup software offers our customers a range of greatly enhanced capabilities."

"For a FLEXSTOR.db user, who often is dealing with massive numbers and sizes of files in a variety of locations, REELbackup makes it possible not only to select and schedule digital content for backup, archiving and restoring, but also to handle thousands of those files in a single transaction.  And, because of FLEXSTOR.db's architecture and its compatibility with Oracle8i, remote users can perform those same functions through a browser."

"The REEL software is highly compatible with Oracle8i," said Denley, "and, with optional add-ons, allows a FLEXSTOR.db user not only to backup files, but also to backup an entire Oracle database in real time, without requiring that the server or database itself be brought down prior to the operation."

Rorke Data's FLEXSTOR.db is a cross-platform, enterprise-wide digital asset management application that offers its users the ability to easily archive and quickly retrieve thousands of digital files — whether graphics, digital photos, text, or audio and video files — throughout large and small organizations. Through integration with Oracle8i interMedia, a database solution for integrated multi-media, FLEXSTOR.db users can effectively manage their digital assets across the Internet from multiple locations.

REEL software features a unique architecture that provides maximum throughput by streaming, in parallel, all backup data to any combination of locally or remotely attached tape drives.  The software simultaneously interleaves multiple streams of backup and/or archive data to optimize tape device performance in the backup, archive and recovery process. REELbackup software capitalizes on Rorke Data's family of tape library systems and tape drives to provide users with easy expandability, higher performance and faster data access than previously offered backup, archive and restore solutions.

"In addition to the expandability, performance and access benefits that the REEL software provides, FLEXSTOR.db customers will also have the ability to expand the REEL solution across the enterprise," stated Dale Miller, Vice President of Storage Management for SCH.  "This capability allows for centralized management to extend beyond  their FLEXSTOR.db data, to include their Oracle, Informix, Sybase and MS Exchange data. And, they can also store this data in Rorke's automated tape library units in addition to more than 70 others."
