XenData Archive Series™ Software
XenData Archive Series Software manages tape libraries and RAID delivering a storage solution that provides legal compliance, lifecycle management and disaster recovery for your digital documents. It is designed for managing fixed content data, generated by applications like document imaging, medical imaging, email archiving and digital video.
Unalterable tape plays a vital role in an organization's compliance initiatives. Unalterable Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) tape provides an ideal solution when it is important to ensure the accuracy, authenticity and trustworthiness of electronic records. When combined with RAID, it provides a solution that is higher performance and lower cost than the traditional optical disk approach
Overview: XenData Archive SeriesTM
Archive Series software provides data storage management, creating large capacity solutions that combine RAID and high performance tape libraries. The solutions are designed for "Fixed Content" archival applications, such as document imaging, medical imaging, large scale ERM/COLD, financial item processing, scientific data and email archives.
Archive Series software provides the following functionality to meet the special needs of Fixed Content data:
- Virtualization of a tape library and RAID presenting them as a standard file system (Windows CIFS or NFS).
- Information Lifecycle Management with policy based data retention rules set by the system administrator.
- Replication of tape cartridges for off-site retention, creating and updating replicas automatically.
- File Audit Trail using (optional) WORM tapes that ensure legal compliance and best practice for data authentication.
An Archive Series solution appears as a standard CIFS or NFS server. The policy based Information Lifecycle Management and version control provide powerful file management optimized for Fixed Content data but are transparent to standard applications.
A typical system configuration is:
- A file server running Microsoft Windows 2000 Server or alternatively a Windows Powered NAS server, connected directly to the network via Ethernet. The server has on-board RAID.
- An AIT or SAIT Tape Library connected to the file server via SCSI or Fibre Channel
XenData Archive Series software delivers major benefits for the storage of Fixed Content data:
- Legal compliance Data is written simultaneously to both RAID and WORM tape cartridges. The WORM tape provides a non-erasable and unalterable record. The solution meets SEC regulations and best practices.
- Alignment to Business Requirements Policy based ILM allows the administrator to define file group policies such as retention period on RAID, storage on WORM or rewritable tape, the allocated tape set, etc.
- Highly Cost Effective Typically much lower cost than an equivalent optical disk based system.
- For Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery Replica tapes are automatically generated for off-site retention. The system will automatically rebuild from tape.
- Easy to Use
- a: Simple file group policy administration
- b: XenData History Explorer access via browser; plus
- c: automatic creation and update of tape replicas.
- Presents RAID and Tape Library as a Logical Drive Letter
- Administrator Policies define where Data is Physically Stored
- Simultaneously writes to RAID and Tape, for Continuous Backup
- Replicates Tape Cartridges for Off-Site Retention
- Provides Full Disaster Recovery from Tape
