Quantum PX720
The Quantum PX720 is an innovatively designed automation platform unlike any other. Uniquely engineered to deliver standard features customers expect, you are secure knowing that your data is protected by both redundant and highavailability components. The PX720 is a versatile platform that reliably tackles increasingly complex data protection challenges while allowing you to plan for increased data growth and control management costs.
Features
  • Customer-driven design with high reliability fifth generation robotics
  • Accommodates from one to 20 drives and up to 726 media slots - scaling to over 3,500 slots - for unmatched performance/capacity ratios
  • Supports SDLT 320, SDLT 600 and LTO-2 tape drives
  • High-availability and redundant components included at no additional charge
  • Maximum flexibility with userprogrammable load ports
  • Extreme density per square foot - up to 18.52TB/sq. foot with SDLT 600 or up to 13.92TB/sq. foot with LTO-2
  • Web-based management with alert notification, component-level diagnostics and SNMP integration included at no additional charge
  • Multiple connectivity choices enables you to standardize on one or mix-andmatch for storage consolidation
  • Installation and one-year on-site warranty included at no extra charge

The Quantum PX720 is the new standard in enterprise automation and the fifth generation enterprise library from Quantum. After over eight years of enterprise library experience,

Quantum research indicated there are four requirements in an enterprise library:

  1. RELIABILITY
  2. FLEXIBILITY
  3. SCALABILITY
  4. SUPERIOR VALUE (or price vs. performance).

These were the design requirements used to create this revolutionary new enterprise library.

RELIABILITY FEATURES
  • Redundant power and cooling included at no extra cost
  • Web-based management and monitoring included at no extra cost
  • Monitored library components include: drives, fans, power supplies and the robotics mechanism
  • Hot swappable drives, fans and power supplies
  • Advanced Vision Design System
    • Robotics mechanism utilizes a counter-weight mechanism which provides fast, yet efficient, cartridge handling
      • ~14 scans per barcode label at 30 inches per second (ips)
      • Inventory time of ~2 minutes with two thousandths of an inch accuracy (0.002)
FLEXIBILITY FEATURES
  • Drive types: include SDLT 320 (LVD SCSI), SDLT 600 (LVD SCSI), HP LTO2 (LVD SCSI), HP LTO2 (native Fibre Channel)
  • Connectivity options: include SCSI, Fibre Channel (controller or native Fibre Channel) or Gigabit Ethernet (NDMP) or a combination of all three. The robotics mechanism is configured as either SCSI or native Fibre Channel
    • For controller-based Fibre Channel, Quantum provides a CPCI-based card cage within the library to house up to six 2-Gigabit FC cards. The system also supports native Fibre Channel tape drives.
    • For Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for the backup of NAS filers, Quantum offers a rack-mountable device that supports the Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP).
  • User programmable load ports: for users that require importing and exporting cartridges for off-site archiving or disaster recovery, the PX720 allows for ultimate flexibility with user-programmable load port slots.
    • SDLT: 0, 14, 28 or 42 load port slots
    • LTO: 0, 16, 32 or 48 load port slots
*Note: Numbers reflect removable load packs which decreases slot count by a total of six slots.
  • Innovative bin panel design: allows for full cartridge accessibility which provides easy access for bulk loading/unloading. Tape cartridges are arranged in bin packs that individually load into any of the cabinets six slide out bin panels. Each bin panel can hold 12 bin packs. This design is what allows for the maximum density achieved by the PX720.

SCALABILITY FEATURES

For scalability, the PX720 offers the ability to increase performance and capacity, yet only pay for it when you need it and not before.

  • Performance on Demand (PoD): For performance, the PX720 utilizes a PoD. Also known as a drive cluster, the PoD includes the entire infrastructure required to monitor, power and cool up to four drives. Therefore, if you purchase a system with only four drives to start out with, you can be assured you are only paying for the infrastructure to support only those drives. The library houses up to five PoD’s or 20 drives.
  • Capacity on Demand (CoD): For capacity, the PX720 utilizes CoD. The unit ships with full bin slots, however, via the Web-based management screen, there are two additional capacity points available besides full and that is entry and intermediate.
    • Entry: 190 SDLT / 214 LTO
    • Intermediate: 382 SDLT / 430 LTO
    • Full: 642 SDLT / 726 LTO
  • Cross-Link Mechanism (CLM): For additional investment protection, the PX720 can scale horizontally by linking up to five PX720 libraries together via the CLM. The CLM is a horizontal, extensible link with a self-contained controller that shuttles media cartridge between systems.

SUPERIOR VALUE

Realizing the importance of price vs. value, Quantum has delivered a product that is truly unparalleled in the industry today. Included in the base price of the PX720 at no additional charge:

  • Intuitive, yet easy-to-use Web-based management
  • High availability with 2N power, 2N fans
  • Installation, basic operator-level training and one year 5x9xND on-site warranty
  • The PX720 maximizes density and therefore optimizes data center floor space
