Q&A with...
Chris Wall
Head Editor
Steelhouse Productions
"Rorke Data immediately came to the top of my research list as the most reliable and comprehensive
SAN dealer, especially with our Apple pipeline."
Chris Wall is the Editor for Big Ideas Inc. Prior to Big Ideas, Chris served as the head editor for Steelhouse Productions, based in Oklahoma, and also headed up the Oklahoma City Apple Final Cut Pro User Group. Chris has worked in an AVID SAN environment for more than 10 years.
Q: Can you explain what you do, your typical workflow, and why a Rorke Data shared SAN network has benefited your video editing and creative process?
A: When I was with Steelhouse Productions, our facility was built with independent local storage on a few Macs running Cinewave with Final Cut Pro. Our level of collaboration and broadcast design, as we would move a project from offline to online, was dependent
on copying files from one local
storage to the other and then updating project files and edits as we progressed.
We began a search for a SAN array after some simple number crunching revealed that local, fast, reliable storage was going to become quickly prohibitive. Rorke Data immediately came to the top of my research list as the most reliable and comprehensive SAN dealer, especially with our Apple pipeline. I tested Xserve RAID extensively and realized that the product could not provide the same level of technical support and experience that I knew Rorke would.
